Key Information

We are delighted to be working with your children and are looking forward to all the wonderful things we will be learning together. The children are in for an exciting year in Year 1.

Please feel free to speak to any member of the Year 1 team if you have any questions or queries or contact us via the office. Alternatively, use the messaging section on Class Dojo to contact your child's class teacher. Here you will be able to receive messages from your teacher, see when your child receives Dojo rewards and stay in touch.classdojo logo

Keep checking our class page for updates.

A newsletter will be coming out at the end of this week along with an autumn term homework grid full of fun things to do over the term with your child to earn extra Dojos and House Points. Visit the school class page for more information.

PE is on Wednesday and, we ask the children to come to school in their PE kit on that day. Earrings should be taken out or taped on PE days.

Forest School will be on Thursday alternate weeks so, each class gets a longer session once a fortnight.

1HK first session is Thursday 12th September.

1SH first session is Thursday 19th September.

Letters and Sounds

Reading

We believe that all of our children can become fluent readers which is why we teach reading through Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised. In Year 1, children will build upon their phonetical knowledge from Foundation Stage and master phonic strategies as they progress through school. This will be taught through daily engaging phonics sessions and during reading practice sessions with a matched decodable reading book. We advise that you read regularly with your child at least three times per week to develop confidence, fluency and comprehension - please initial and date in their reading journal when they have read at home.

Many thanks,

The Year 1 Team
